School launches drive to fund dental care for combat veterans

November 4, 2020 - As Veterans Day nears, the UW School of Dentistry has begun a fund-raising campaign to support free dental treatment for low-income U.S. combat veterans and their families at the school’s clinics. The school is reaching out to alumni and other supporters to seek funds that would allow it to treat Washington state veterans and their families at no charge.

Oral health summit to focus on behavioral science

October 28, 2020 - Oral health isn’t just about teeth. Thoughts and behaviors also play a big part. Dentists have long known the importance of influencing people’s behaviors and attitudes to promote healthy teeth and gums. That explains a good deal of the impetus for the Behavioral and Social Oral Health Sciences Summit, which will be held this Thursday and Friday in a virtual space.

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

We stand for justice

The recent wave of fatal violence against Black Americans has been unnerving, even terrifying: Ahmaud Arbery, stalked and shot while jogging in Brunswick, Ga.; Breonna Taylor, shot while in bed when police conducted a no-knock raid on the wrong home in Louisville, Ky.; George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis as a police officer knelt on his neck; and Rayshard Brooks, shot to death by an Atlanta police officer.
