Course Description:
Introduction
to dental implantology based on lectures, case presentations
and laboratory activity.
Educational
Objectives:
The
student will gain knowledge about dental implants. The objectives
will be for the student to be able to describe (1) the history
of implantology, (2) the basic science of osseointegration,
(3) the surgical, prosthetic and restorative considerations
for the partially and fully edentulous patient, (4) the occlusal
considerations of implant treatment; (5) the surgical placement
and restorative procedures step by step, (6) the management
of dental implant patients among the different specialists,
(7) the surgical and prosthetic complications of implants,
(8) to develop a treatment plan on an assigned case and (9)
to restore a single tooth implant in the laboratory.
Course
Outline:
Lecture topics include:
history of implantology; basic science of osseointegration;
surgical and restorative considerations in the selection of
partially and fully edentulous patients for implant placement;
implant systems; biomechanics; application, surgical placement,
restorative procedures of an implant system; partially and
fully edentulous case presentations; surgical complications;
prosthetic complications. |
Course Expectations:
To
successfully meet the requirements of this course, the student
is expected to attend all lectures, laboratories and case
presentations and demonstrate his/her knowledge of the material
presented through a written examination which will measure
his/her ability to manage the restoration of partial and complete
edentulism using implant procedures.
Effective
Winter Quarter 2007, completion of on-line course evaluation
is a requirement of this course. Failure to comply will result
in an "Incomplete" grade being assigned.
