Course Description:
Third quarter of a three-quarter lecture
series (with RESD 530 and RESD 531) related to RESD 630 (clinic)
presenting restorative dentistry principles, including
supportive material and clinical procedures.
Educational Objectives:
The student will gain knowledge in the
concepts of fixed prosthodontic restoration. The objectives will
be for the student to understand (1) the procedures, (2)
endodontic and orthodontic considerations, (3) clinical shade
selection, (4) laboratory communication, (5) electrosurgery, (6)
provisional restoration, (8) diagnosing and treatment of
fractured teeth, (9) interocclusal records, (10) tissue
management, and (11) restoring the previously restored
dentition.
Course Outline:
Ten two hour lectures covering the following
subjects are given: (1) Shade selection, (2) laboratory
communication, (2) Electrosurgery, (3) Orthodontic uprighting,
(4) Eggshell temporary restoration, (5) Tissue management in
cosmetic dentistry, (6) Diagnosing tooth fractures, (7)
Restoring the previously restored dentition, and (8) guest
lecturers presenting topics in restorative and fixed
prosthodontics. |
Course Expectations:
To successfully meet
the requirements of this course, the student is expected to
attend lectures and to demonstrate her/his understanding of
the lecture topics and supplemental readings through midterm,
quizzes and final written examinations.
Effective
Winter Quarter 2007, completion of on-line course evaluation
is a requirement of this course. Failure to comply will result
in an "Incomplete" grade being assigned.
