Course Description:
Clinical course involving the diagnosis and
management of completely and partially edentulous patients.
Removable partial dentures, immediate dentures, and complete
dentures are fabricated. Follow-up care is provided for patients
previously treated.
Educational Objectives:
Students will apply their knowledge of
prosthodontics in the clinical setting for the edentulous and
partially edentulous patient. The objectives will be for the
student to be able to (1) complete the procedures necessary to
fabricate removable partial dentures, immediate dentures, and
complete dentures, (2) deliver the removable denture, and (3)
provide follow up care.
Course Outline:
Students are assigned by blocks to the clinic
for their prosthetic patient care. One clinic session per week
is scheduled for each student. Patients requiring removable
partial dentures, immediate complete dentures and complete
dentures are treated. |
Course Expectations:
To successfully meet
the requirements of this course, the student must complete
at least five arches of removable dentures during the course,
typically, one arch of removable partial denture, one arch
of immediate denture, and three additional arches of either
complete dentures, removable partial dentures or immediate
dentures plus an annual recall of their previous year’s complete
denture patient. The student must also demonstrate an understanding
of the principles of removable prostheses and their technical
skills through a written competency examination.
Effective
Winter Quarter 2007, completion of on-line course evaluation
is a requirement of this course. Failure to comply will result
in an "Incomplete" grade being assigned.
