Course Description:
Lecture
course covering clinical endodontic procedures, including
diagnosis, clinical techniques (use of electronic apex locators,
radiography, rubber dam, and local anesthesia), restoration
of endodontically-treated teeth, endodontic emergencies, procedural
accidents, and case selection and referral.
Educational Objectives:
The student
should be able to: 1) accurately perform
endodontic diagnostic tests and formulate correct pulpal and
periradicular diagnoses; 2 )
solve basic problems in endodontic radiography, rubber dam
isolation, and achieving local anesthesia; 3) diagnose and
plan treatment for endodontic emergencies; 4) understand principles
of restoration of endodontically-treated teeth; 5) identify
endodontic procedural accidents and preventive measures; and
6) assess endodontic case difficulty level and recognize the
basis for referral to a specialist.
Course Outline:
Lecture
topics include: clinic orientation; endodontic diagnosis;
electronic apex locators; endodontic radiography; rubber dam
isolation in endodontic treatment; local anesthesia for endodontic
treatment; restoration of endodontically-treated teeth; endodontic
emergencies and therapeutics; procedural accidents; and case
selection and basis for referral.
Course
Expectations:
