Winter, 2004The Oral pathology Staff at the University of Washington would like to wish our readers a happy, peaceful, enlightening and rewarding 2004.This first issue of E-PIE (Electronic Pathology Information Exchange) marks an important turning point for the University of Washington Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Service (OMPS). It is a simple, yet powerful instrument, created in the spirit of learning, with which pathologists and practitioners can exchange information at the click of a button. Our goal with this newsletter is to stay in touch with the dental community at large and share current knowledge in a more consistent manner. We are certain that this mode of communication will open a two-way path for us to learn from our readers’ clinical experience and for us to share what is new in academia. Ultimately, our goal is to give back to patients with our newfound knowledge. This newsletter will consist of five sections. In “News in Brief,” we will discuss recent clinical advances and research reviews. In the “Clinical Case Discussion” section, we will present a clinical case with a short history, differential diagnosis, and recommendations for clinical management. The “Diagnostic Tests” section will cover laboratory and clinical tests that are helpful for a more definitive diagnosis. “Oral Pathology Seminars” will be either a short description of an upcoming continuing education course in oral pathology or a PowerPoint presentation of a disease or groups of related diseases. The “Miscellaneous” section will be left open for any OMPS news or anything interesting to publish. It is very important that we hear from you in order to maintain the exchange of information, especially in the areas of clinical case discussion and diagnostic tests. We would appreciate your contributions in the form of clinical cases with short histories and photographs or radiographs. Patient permission is required in order to publish a case. You will be acknowledged for your submissions with your name and the address of your practice. We are certain that with your active involvement, this newsletter will go beyond being just a means of communication. It will be a live, interactive learning tool that brings the knowledge and abilities of dental practitioners and oral specialists together. Thank you, and Happy New year! |
