Pollene Speed, DDS, appointed Chair of the UW School of Dentistry Admissions Committee |

Pollene Speed, DDS, was appointed as Chair of the UW School of Dentistry Admissions Committee in August 2004. Since that time the Committee has extend invitations to 55 applicants. Fifty-two have accepted offers for fall 2005. In addition to her appointment as Chair of the School of Dentistry Admissions Committee, Dr. Speed is also the Chair of the Seattle Vocational Institute Dental Admissions Board and the Seattle Vocational Institute (SVI) Dental Fundraising Committee. Dr. Speed has faculty appointments at Seattle Community College/Seattle Vocational Institute and is the Dental Program Director for Allied Health. She has an appointment as affiliate staff at Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, and earned her Professional Technical College Teaching Certification (1999) and her Washington Online Teaching Certification (2001). Dr. Speed’s work experience includes service at Children’s Orthopedic Hospital (1980-1984); Seattle King County Public Health (1985-1989); and, Puget Sound Neighborhood Health (1991-2001). Dr. Speed is a member of the Washington State Dental Association, American Dental Association, Seattle-King County District, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and she is the Treasurer of Seattle Girls, Inc. She is also a member of the Joint Committee, the Health Care Education Institute, the Dental Hygiene Steering Committee, the Dental Hygiene Admissions Committee and serves on the Washington State Dental Assistant Task Force. Dr. Speed was the first female African-American graduate of the UW School of Dentistry. She and her husband, George McIntyre, live in the Mount Baker neighborhood, are active members of Mt. Zion in Seattle.
