Beirne.jpg (20080 bytes)The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery focuses its teaching resources on undergraduate dental students and its four-year resident training program.  The objectives of the undergraduate program are to teach management of medically compromised patients and routine dento-alveolar surgery.  The aims of the graduate program are to recruit and train oral and maxillofacial surgeons for private practice and academic careers.  The residents are trained to demonstrate intelligence, sound judgement, technical skill, honesty, and compassion for patients requiring treatment in the full scope of the specialty.

The faculty in the department provide teaching in full scope facial trauma, dento-alveolar surgery, TMJ disease, orthognathic surgery, reconstructive and implant surgery, benign and some malignant pathology, management of infection, pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery and increasing quantities of facial cosmetic surgery.  Clinical activities focus on the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
