Exposure Control Manual AdministrationA. Plan Development and MaintenanceThe responsibility for the formulation and updating of an infection control policy, an infection control manual, and an exposure control plan rests with the Biohazards Control Committee, Dean's Advisory Committee, and the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs of the School of Dentistry. B. Departmental ResponsibilitiesResponsibility for compliance at the departmental faculty and staff level rests with each chair and ultimately with every individual member of those departments in which activities are conducted that create a potential for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This responsibility includes notification of the Safety Assistant that a new employee has been hired who requires training and appropriate immunizations. It also includes the facilitation of training of appropriate employees in their department in accordance with state and federal regulations. C. Office of Clinical Affairs (OCA) ResponsibilitiesThe Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and the Safety Assistant of the School share the implementation responsibility through the production and distribution of the Exposure Control Plan, the Infection Control Policy and the hazard control manual of the school. These officials also are responsible for nurturing compliance with the provisions of the plan by employees of the Office of Clinical Affairs and share the responsibility with department chairs to nurture compliance by students, faculty, and clinical staff. The OCA will also make available the required training for students and employees in personal protection from bloodborne pathogens in the workplace which is tailored to the need of the departments as an alternative to training provided by Office of Environmental Health and Safety. D. Health and Safety Coordinator ResponsibilitiesThis position serves as the coordinator for the School of Dentistry on health and safety matters with the University of Washington Office of Environmental Health and Safety as well as governmental agencies. The Health and Safety Coordinator along with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for the maintenance of training, immunization, and job- related injury records as required by law. E. Office of Environmental Health and Safety ResponsibilitiesThe Office of Environmental Health and Safety shall make available all required immunizations for university employees and volunteers at no cost to those individuals. They shall also keep a master file of all immunizations and blood titer tests which have been administered through their program. This office shall also make available the required training for employees in personal protection from bloodborne pathogens in the workplace and keep records of such training sessions and attendees.
