Tar Chee Aw, DDS, MS

Education/Training

Dr. Aw holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bristol (1986), a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (1990), an Advanced Education in General Dentistry certificate (1991), both from Northwestern University; a General Practice Residency certificate from Cornell University (1993), and a Master of Science degree in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Michigan (1996).

  • Restorative Dentistry 515, 516, 517. (Dental Anatomy & Occlusion). 3 credit hours, F, W, S. Lectures and pre-clinical supervision of first-year students.
  • Restorative Dentistry 620. (Treatment Planning) 3 credit hours, Su. Clinical supervision of third-year students.
  • Restorative Dentistry 630, 640. (Clinical Restorative Dentistry). 3 credit hours, F, W, S. Clinical supervision of third- and fourth-year students.
  • Dentistry 659. (Comprehensive Care) 9 credit hours, Su. Clinical supervision of fourth-year students.

Research Interests

Dr. Aw is an Assistant Professor of the Division of Operative Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. His research focus is primarily in laboratory evaluation and clinical trials of new restorative dental materials and techniques. He has authored numerous scientific research and clinical articles in various peer-reviewed journals.

Awards and Professional Service

Dr. Aw maintains a private faculty practice at the School of Dentistry and is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Association for Dental Research. Dr. Aw is a member of the SKCDS Strategic Planning Committee, serves as Faculty Liaison for Delta Sigma Delta and is a board member of the Washington Academy of General Dentistry. He has served as an Editorial Advisor and on the Editorial Board for the Operative Dentistry journal, a Reviewer for the Journal of Prosthodontics, and the International Journal of Prosthodontics. He is a speaker for the Program for Early Parental Support (PEPS), a consultant to the non-profit Northwest Health Law Advocates (NOHLA) and an advisor to the advocacy group Statewide Poverty Action Network (SPAN). He is a frequent presenter at scientific meetings and has held continuing dental education courses locally, nationally and internationally.

Personal Interests

Dr. Aw's personal interests include reading, computing, sports, music, travel, gardening and recreational activities with his family.
