Advanced Dental Education (Graduate) Program
Program Description
The UW Graduate Orthodontics program consists of ten quarters of academic course work, clinical training, and research experience, leading to a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) and/or a Certificate in Orthodontics. Currently it is structured as a 30-month program that starts mid-June.
Five students are accepted each year.
Eligible applicants hold a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental college in the US, or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
This school does not offer a PhD in Orthodontics. It is possible to combine Orthodontics with a PhD in Oral Biology. Contact the Department of Oral Biology for information on the PhD program.
Application and Selection
Applicants must apply through PASS, and must also register with the National Matching Service. Application packets are available from the ADEA PASS System May through August.
Qualified applicants have a dental degree or are in the final year of dental school. They should have a GPA of 3.0 ("B") or better. The Graduate School requires an application, fee and transcripts from those accepted into the program.
Selection is by Department faculty, who review the scholastic achievements, exam scores, statements, and recommendation letters of all applicants and identify those they feel are most likely to complete the program expeditiously with the highest level of achievement. Twenty applicants are invited for interviews on Monday, October 27th 2008. The Matching Service establishes the final class of five students at the beginning of December.
Visiting Policy
The Department of Orthodontics discourages visits from potential candidates for its graduate program. Because we have a limited amount of time and space to accommodate these types of visits, we have concerns that often they may not be a good use of your time and money. We do have a practice of inviting all viable candidates for the program to visit the department and talk to faculty, staff and graduate students during the interview day. We limit our other activities during that time so that our primary focus can be the candidates. We hope that this policy does not discourage you from considering applying to our program.
International Applicants
An international applicant is anyone who is not a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident. If you fit this definition, please click here for important information about admission and application requirements:
