University of Washington Medical Center
The University of Washington Medical Center is a 250-bed hospital located in the Health Sciences Center on the University's South Campus. Orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery and pre-prosthetic surgery comprise the bulk of the oral surgery operations performed at the University of Washington Medical Center. Each resident spends at least 6 months at this hospital.
Harborview Medical Center
Formerly King County Hospital, the 250-bed Harborview Medical Center is now part of the University system. This modern hospital has the finest emergency trauma facilities in the Northwest. The Trauma Center for the Puget Sound region was opened at Harborview Medical Center in February, 1975. Trauma surgery comprises the bulk of the operations performed at Harborview Medical Center. The ambulatory anesthesia program for residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery functions at Harborview under the direction of Dr. Andrew G. Tolas. Each resident spends at least 9 months at Harborview Medical Center. The resident on call stays at Harborview Medical Center and while on call, is required to sleep in the residents' quarters at Harborview Hall.
Children's Hospital and Medical Center
Children's Hospital is a 200-bed pediatric medical center serving the Northwest (including Alaska). The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service has recently been expanded at this hospital and holds regular clinics, seeing pediatric patients and operating on in-patients with a variety of oral and maxillofacial surgery problems. Each resident spends at least 6 months at Children's Hospital and Medical Center.
Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System
The Seattle VA Medical Center is a 488 bed tertiary care hospital serving a geographic area which includes Washington, Idaho, Alaska and Oregon. A new service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was opened in October of 1996. Residents have managed medically compromised patients with a variety of surgical problems including dentoalveolar, preprosthetic, implant, head and neck pathology and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Each resident spends at least three months at the VA medical Center.
Emanuel Children's Hospital, Portland, OR
Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital is a full-service 155-bed hospital-within-a-hospital on the campus of Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Medical Center in north Portland. It is the largest children's hospital in Oregon and the hospital of choice of metropolitan-area pediatricians. We serve children from throughout Oregon, Southwest Washington, Alaska and Idaho. Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital provides virtually all medical specialties in a state-of-the-art child-focused environment. In 1997, we added a new entrance and admitting area, more beds for critically ill children, family-friendly space and a Parent Resource Center so families can fully participate as members of the caregiving team. Each resident spends at least six months at Emanuel Children's Hospital.
