Course Description:

This course is designed to provide participants with up-to-date comprehensive information on ceramic bonded restorations. Emphasis will be placed not only on achieving better esthetic and function, but also to reduce undesirable failures reported in the literature.

After two and a half decades of extensive scientific studies, and long-term clinical observations, the empirical feature of bonded ceramic restorations and porcelain veneers have been replaced by well-researched scientific findings. New technologies and products have been developed based on these findings that enable us to provide our patients with more esthetically pleasing and functionally lasting restorations. Revisiting the basic principles of etched porcelain bonded restorations in light of new scientific information, new products and recent technological advances allows us to achieve what was unthinkable a decade ago.

Topics to be Discussed:

  • Revisiting the concept of etched ceramic restorations in light of current scientific and clinical information
  • Formulating a sound concept for etched ceramic restorations
  • Achieving outstanding esthetic results with porcelain veneers
  • Selection of porcelain and luting resins
  • Bonding ceramic restorations in 2010
  • Laboratory communications for etched porcelain bonded restorations: the key to your success
  • Current status of luting resins for bonding ceramic restorations
  • Failures of ceramic bonded restorations: Untold stories

Course Objectives - As a result of attending Friday's lecture and Saturday's lab of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Provide more durable bonded ceramic restorations in light of new information and products
  • Perform minimal invasive tooth preparation for durable ceramic bonded restorations
  • Perform step-by-step procedures for bonding ceramic veneers
  • Maximize the esthetic longevity of bonded ceramic restorations
  • Minimize the occurrence of undesirable failures
  • Learn about the importance of surface treatment on longevity of bonded ceramic restorations
  • Enhance the efficiency of adhesive materials for bonding ceramic restorations
