Course Description:
The appropriate management of oral diseases is as important as early recognition of these diseases. The decision to treat or monitor oral diseases should be based on applicable and reproducible criteria. The main goal of this course is to sort through and explicate criteria that can be used as a standard of care for each of the common and important oral diseases. The course is designed to specifically address the question of what standard of care should be adopted for each oral disease category, including: red and white lesions; gingival swellings, as well as swellings in other sites; pigmented lesions; generalized ulcerative lesions; and bone diseases. This course can be very helpful for general dentists, dental specialties and dental hygienists. Reasonable criteria for choosing the appropriate time to biopsy and the appropriate reason(s) to monitor will be offered. This course will offer the practitioner the tools to optimize patient care and minimize the chance of mishandling an oral disease.
Course Objectives - As a result of attending this course, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss guidelines for managing oral soft tissue and bony lesions
- Decide which lesions to biopsy and when
- Identify what lesions to observe and why and how often
- Outline the most common oral soft tissue and bony lesions
- Focus on the clinical application and management of diseases
