TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is designed for dentists who wish to familiarize themselves with current information in the prosthodontic and surgical phases of dental implants.

*Refunds for CDE participation courses must be requested at least 14 days prior to the first meeting of a course. All participation courses have a $100 non-refundable deposit. The deposit is necessary to cover the cost of materials that are incurred which are non-refundable to our office. If a cancellation is made less than 14 days before a course, no monetary refund will be given, and the money can not be transferred to another course, unless the CDE office is able to occupy the spot with another participant. Funds, minus the $100 non-refundable deposit, may be transferred to another course within the same CDE calendar year if the request is made 14 days before the course.

Course Description:

This laboratory course will consist of demonstrations and several hands-on exercises. Participants may bring their own cases for discussion and treatment planning.

Hands-on Workshop:

  • Step-by-step implant placement principles
  • Impression taking with open and closed tray techniques
  • Fabrication of the provisional restorations
  • Abutment selection for single and multiple implant restorations
  • Fabrication of the diagnositic waxup and surgical guide (depending on time allowance)

Required Equipment for Participation:

  • Straight cone slow speed handpiece (6-line attachment in the D-1 lab)
  • Provisional trimming burs and disks - for example:
    • H78 (Brasseler USA)
    • H295EF (Brasseler USA)
    • Disk-911 (Brasseler USA)
  • Waxing instruments: PK Thomas #1, 7 wax spatula, and Holleback type carver

Instructors:

ALEXANDER SHOR received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine in 1997. He continued with specialty training and obtained a certificate in Prosthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry from the University of Washington in 2001. Dr. Shor served as an assistant director of the Graduate Prosthodontics program and maintains affiliate assistant professor position at the UW School of Dentistry. His full-time dental practice is limited to prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. Dr. Shor has special interests in the areas of tooth replacement, tooth wear and dental technology. He has given lectures and authored numerous publications on the subject of prosthodontics and dental technology.

RALF SCHULER holds a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree in Dentistry from the University of Washington. He received his dental degree from the University of Erlangen/Nuernberg in Germany. Dr. Schuler is a former Clinical Assistant Professor of the University of Cologne and is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the UW School of Dentistry Department of Periodontics. Dr. Schuler has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and lectures both nationally and internationally on periodontic topics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Schuler maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and implant dentistry in Tukwila, Washington.

Lunch Selection:

All meals are accompanied by a dessert and bottled water. Sandwiches come with a side salad, and salads come with rustic artisan bread.

Turkey Sandwich*: roasted turkey breast, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo on wheat.

Roasted Veggie Sandwich: hummus with roasted seasonal veggies such as: eggplant, red peppers and mushrooms, cucumber and roasted garlic-basil spread on wheat.

Smoked salmon Caesar Salad: lox, shaved parmesan and garlic croutons atop crisp romaine lettuce (anchovies upon request). Caesar dressing and a lemon wedge.

*Note: If we have not received your specified request by Friday, February 1, the default option - Turkey Sandwich - will be ordered for you.
