What Should You Do?

  • Use an Email Signature/Footer – The following is required when communicating patient information:

The above email may contain patient identifiable or confidential information. Because email is not secure, please be aware of associated risk of email transmission. If you are a patient, communication to a UW School of Dentistry Provider via email implies your agreement to email communication.

  • Don’t Auto-Forward UW Email

School of Dentistry and UW Medicine workforce members are not permitted to set their UW email accounts to automatically forward to non-UW accounts such and Gmail and Yahoo. Please see related HIPAA policy.

  • Get Approval for Outside Employment:

Official approval for outside employment is required. UW employees (including non-paid affiliate faculty) engaging in outside employment may not use their University title or University trademarks (logos, symbols) for personal gain, which includes using UW affiliation to advertise private practice and soliciting private patients while conducting UW duties.
