Guidelines Governing
Membership on the APT Committee

  1. Composition and Academic Rank of Members:
    1. The APT Committee shall consist of seven members. Committee members must be an Assistant Professor or above. There shall be no more than one Assistant Professor and two (2) Associate Professors on the Committee. Any member below the rank of full Professor shall not participate in the annual promotion session if he/she is being considered for promotion at that time.
    2. A member shall serve for a period of three (3) years and is limited to two (2) consecutive three-year terms unless an extension is approved by the Dean and Faculty Council.
    3. No more than two (2) faculty members from any one department may serve on the APT Committee concurrently.
    4. The Chairperson of the APT Committee shall be elected by the Committee from within the Committee. The Chairperson must be at the rank of full Professor.
  2. Election of Committee Members: The Faculty Council shall make nominations for the APT Committee. At least two (2) eligible candidates shall be nominated for each vacancy. These nominations shall be presented at a meeting of the Dental Faculty scheduled during the Spring Quarter. Nominations of eligible candidates may be made from the floor by any two voting members of the faculty. Consent of the nominee must be obtained prior to nomination.

    The actual election shall be held as described in Article VI, Sections 45 of the Code of Organization and Procedures for the Faculty of the School of Dentistry. Elected faculty shall assume office on the first day of Summer Quarter following election.

  3. Vacancies: Vacancies on the APT Committee shall be filled by the Dean in consultation with the Faculty Council. The person selected shall serve only until the next regular election.

  4. Responsibilities

    1. To establish guidelines governing appointment, promotion, and tenure consistent with the University Faculty Code.
    2. To review candidates and advise the Dean regarding proposed appointments, promotions and the award of tenure.

  6. Annual Reports: The APT Committee shall submit a written report to the Dean and Faculty Council, and give a report at the annual Spring Faculty meeting.
